Google+ Pages for brands have launched; let the comparisons to Facebook brand pages begin! Many people have been boasting the potential search engine optimization advantages these Google+ Pages will have, but there are 5 important things Facebook Pages have that Google+ Pages currently do not.
1. Vanity URLs
Find us at facebook.com/firebellysocial is a lot easier to remember (and takes up a lot less space) than find us at http://plus.google.com/b/114637264031559925122/114637264031559925122
2. Multiple Admins
Only one admin per Google+ Page, along with the inability to transfer admins, makes it impossible for internal teams and outside resources to manage or post content to your page.
3. Contests & Promotions
Per the Google+ Pages Contest and Promotion Policy, “You may not run contests, sweepstakes, offers, coupons or other such promotions directly on your Google+ Page.” That’s really unfortunate. Contests on Facebook are one of the fastest ways to raise page awareness and boost community size.
Facebook Insights aren’t perfect, but they’re better than nothing (and nothing is all you currently get with Google+ Pages). No analytics make is nearly impossible for brands to measure success (however they choose to define it) on their pages.
5. Custom Tabs
On Google+, everyone hits the wall (which is not necessarily a bad thing) but brands wanting to customize or set expectations for their fans’ experience via a Welcome or Landing tab are unable to do so.
