Stop Tweeting. Start Meeting. Twitter Girl Video Rocks.

I know you know a person like this. Unfollow them!

A few months ago – I got to spend a few minutes with Guy Kawasaki and talk about his twitter philosophies.

I'm taking Guy's UFM policy and applying it to the space cadet tweeters. I must also give credit to Ari Herzog – who shared these awesome videos for Jewish New Year. Basically, the annoying things that were somewhat permissible in 2007 and 2008 with regards to twitter are definitely NOT cool anymore. For example, tweeting during actual real life conversations is definitely not ok. Check out this video. The take away. Stop tweeting constantly. Start Meeting more!

And why I love social bookmarking over search engines

Nice piece in the Silicon Alley Insider's Chart of the Day today:

Firebelly loves Digg

Unique visitors to Digg.com reached 17.4 million in August,
according to comScore. That kind of traffic crushes Digg's competition,
including Yahoo's Buzz, which grew a little during the past year, and
AOL's Propeller, which tanked.
We don't have Digg's unique visitors from this time last year,
because comScore changed the way it measures the site's traffic this
past July. Still, a comScore rep says, "Digg is definitely growing
strongly."
Why the surge? A Digg rep cites "recent implementations like
integration with Facebook Connect, DiggBar launch, Digg Dialoggs and
the continued flow of great content submissions from the community."

I prefer social
bookmarking or collaborative sharing over the traditional search engine spider
based classification for several reasons – people understand content better
than any search engine, all pages aren’t indexed by search, and popularity is
way more meaningful than the dubious page ranking system.

Not to mention that Digg is great for traffic generation in general. Thats it for today. For social media marketing. I'm still your friend on the inside ;)

French Maid TV makes video about Dimdim webinars

So this is effin' brilliant. I'd never have watched this but it has hooks, and lets be real – people are going to watch this. Here's the official word.

French
Maid TV today premiered an online video produced for Dimdim, the open
source, browser-based web conferencing company, to get the word out
about their new webinar service.

French Maid TV created the 5 minute web TV video that features hot,
funny, sexy French Maids explaining step by step how to make money
online with webinars at Dimdim (dot) com, YouTube, iTunes, French Maid
TV.com and other video sharing site.

"This is a new way of marketing and advertising. It's more than just
product placement promotion, this is a product demonstration where we
leverage the publicity and distribution on our online social media
channels including Twitter, Facebook and video podcast to deliver a
message that is relevant to people who need to create online seminars
and make money online." says Tim Street the Executive Producer of
French Maid TV.

“We’re delighted to be working with French Maid TV on this promotional
campaign. The launch of our webinar service is designed to provide
people with new and innovative ways to make money using webinars; with
their latest ‘how to’ video, French Maid TV has provided their own
unique spin on using our service,” added Steve Chazin, Chief Marketing
Officer for Dimdim.

In addition to explaining how to use the Dimdim webinar service
(dimdim.com), French Maid TV will be using the Dimdim web seminar
platform to deliver a Sexy Webinar How To Buy Lingerie on October 18th
at 7PM EST.

French Maid TV is a web series of Viral Videos by French Maids that can
be watched for free. French Maid TV launched as a video podcast in Dec
of 2005 and, to date, has had over 35 Million downloads worldwide.
Previous episodes of French Maid TV include How To Give CPR, How To
Register a Domain, How To Share Private Videos and others. French Maid
TV is distributed via Tubemogul can be viewed on a computer, the iPod,
iPhone and Zune.

And here' more from Mashable's Jennifer Van Grove:

"The mutually beneficial relationship is quite harmonious as the ladies of French Maid TV
have already made their mark on online audiences with their
sexier-than-your-average-how-to-videos. Street, the creator of the
series, told us that the deal not only netted him an undisclosed lump
sum, and a CPA arrangement, but a longer term relationship with four
more videos to come.

Of course, the advantage for Dimdim is as ostentatious as those
skimpy maid outfits. They get to tap into an already captive online
audience and reach potential buyers in a completely unique and
eye-popping manner."

Love it? Hate it? Bring it on please!

Kids usage of twitter up according to Silicon Alley Insider

I'm a fan of Dan Frommer's Chart of the Day pieces. This one is particularly interesting. Here's a direct quote and the chart, followed by some questions for you to ponder.

"While Twitter's user base historically favored older users, people
between ages 12-24 have been Twitter's fastest growing age group of
late. And now that age group is actually disproportionately visiting Twitter, according to comScore.

This chart shows comScore U.S. unique visitor stats for different
age groups. A "100" score means that age group is represented among
Twitter's user base in perfect proportion to how much that age group
uses the Web as a whole.

In July, people ages 12-14 scored a "121" — meaning they were
represented among Twitter visitors 21% more than they were represented
among total Web users. And that's up from the mid-70s — significant
underindexing — on Twitter six months ago.  In summary, if comScore's
stats are accurate, people between ages 12-24 are using Twitter, and a lot more are using it now than before."

Do kids love twitter

So here's the questions (some are sort of pseudo-statements)

  1. 35 – 54 seems odd but I might be able to palate it.
  2. 25-34 makes sense. Hell even 55+ makes sense.
  3. But 12 to 24? Some are pre-teens. There are teens in there and there is the totally different (IMO) 22-24 demo. Very weird.
  4. Clearly someone under 24 is using twitter a hell of a lot more. That's good news I think.
  5. 2 to 11? This needs actual evidence in my opinion. This just seems wild!

What do you think?

Firebelly Marketing to manage all social media efforts for IIFF 2009

Earlier this year, Indianapolis International Film Festival selected Firebelly Marketing as its social media agency for the 2009 festival. Responsibilities include managing all social media assets, managing the blog strategy and content development, and working with IIFF evangelists to extend the excitement of the film festival online. According to Dorothy Henckel, President of the board of the IIFF, “we picked Firebelly Marketing because they understand our brand, the social scene in Indy, and our audience, and they live what they preach – that’s impressive.” Duncan Alney and Chad Richards who will spearhead the social media marketing efforts for IIFF are also film makers and have the unique perspective of what its like to be in the production process, and the vital role that film festivals like IIFF play for film makers in connecting with their audiences. The festival kicks off next week – visit indyfilmfest.org for more details on catching some of the cool films being screened this year.
