Meet Firebelly: The Jessica Borgo Interview

As Firebelly Marketing continues to grow, from dull embers to a towering inferno, we’re introducing you to the people that spark our ideas.

We are always adding the best and the very brightest, expanding our agency in order to provide unique creative strategies for our clients. Since social media is social in nature, we want to communicate on what exactly makes our people here at Firebelly tick and we’re continuing the series with Jessica Borgo!

Meet Jessica.

Jessica is our Senior Content Planner. Born and raised in the Hoosier state, Jessica has stayed local. In fact, the farthest from home she has ever lived was an hour from her house, attending Indiana University. After switching her major from studio art, she earned her degree in art history. Her creative and artistic vision translates to all aspects of ideation in our social media marketing strategy!

How Do You Start Your Day?

I optimistically set my alarm for 6:30 AM hoping that I’ll actually be able to sleep long enough to hear it go off. But, my dog’s internal clock is set slighter earlier, so I usually slink downstairs really early. While I make coffee, I check my calendar, email, all social media feeds, and make a list of to-dos on my phone’s notepad. I feed my two kiddos breakfast and make lunches for the day. For about 20 minutes before we leave, I repeat the following phrases, “Where’s your homework?”, “Did you brush your teeth?”, “You need socks.” “Where are your shoes?”, “Did you brush your teeth?” “Do you have your homework?”,”Seriously, put your shoes on”, “Go brush your teeth!”, “We’re going to be late.”, “WE’RE GOING TO BE LATE!”. At the point where I’m winded, by some miracle, we all make it out the door and walk to school before the bell rings. My dog and I continue on for about a mile or two before I get my work day started.

What Is Your Daily Media Diet?

I spend a lot of time on Instagram, but also scan the New York Times headlines throughout the day, as well as Facebook and TikTok. Also, I have several half-read nonfiction books on my nightstand that I pretend to read before bed.

How Do You Get Past Creative Blocks?

Walking, hiking, running, or driving while listening to music. I find that letting my mind wander while I’m moving is the key to unlocking any buried ideas.

What’s The Most Interesting Social Media News You’ve Seen Lately?

Most recently, I’m interested in learning more about Lemon8, the new social media platform from ByteDance, the creators of TikTok. I finally gave in and downloaded it a week ago. It’s aesthetically pleasing without too much noise, so I think I’m going to like it.

What Pet Peeves Do You Have?

Please don’t sit down and eat next to me. Hearing people slurp, gulp, or chew in my ear is painful. I also can’t stand when people don’t pick up after their dogs in public places. Let’s all just agree to be respectful dog owners, ok?

What’s One Piece Of Advice You’d Give To Anyone?

Life isn’t meant to be a long hard slog. If something isn’t serving you, move on and open yourself up to new opportunities.

What’s The Strangest Talent You Have?

I’m really good at subscribing to things. My husband is not impressed.
